Sutter Health donates thousands of backpacks for local students in need

SACRAMENTO – Thanks to the generous donations of Sutter Health employees, Operation Backpack had a successful year bringing in thousands of backpacks, filled with schools supplies for local students before the start of a new school year.

Operation Backpack is a yearly campaign organized by the Volunteers of America that delivers backpacks, collected for students from pre-kindergarten through 12 graders, to homeless and at-risk children in our communities. The Sutter Health Valley Area, together, generously donated more than 2,000 backpacks to the campaign to provide students with the supplies they need to help them be successful in school.

“Supporting Operation Backpack was a new opportunity for affiliates in the South Valley Area this year and I was overwhelmed by the display of generosity from our team,” said Debbie Rinaldo, community benefit coordinator at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. “For us, it’s a simple donation of school supplies, but for underserved youth and their families, it means that Sutter Health cares.”

Recognizing that thousands of children return to school without much needed supplies, the Volunteers of America partnered with agencies and school districts to ensure as many children as possible get the tools they need for the start of school.

With Sutter Health’s Telestroke program, neurologists at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) can provide accurate, targeted and prompt neurological care to patients at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson.

As part of the Telestroke program that has rolled out to several affiliates in the Sutter Health system, local SAH Emergency Department physicians can speak directly with neurologists at CPMC via one-on-one video consultations.
