Auburn – The Placer County Food Bank and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital are giving thousands a lot to be thankful for this year.

For the second year in a row, the Placer Food Bank hosted the Drive Out Hunger Turkey Drive, hoping to gather 5,000 turkeys for families in El Dorado, Nevada and Placer counties in time for Thanksgiving.

As a sponsor of the event, Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital employees from departments across the hospital donated money and turkeys for those in need. Catherine Nishikawa, manager of Nutrition and Food Services, and a group of hospital volunteers loaded up a vehicle with donated turkeys that they then delivered to Roseville Automall, joining veterans, community partners and families dropping off frozen birds.

“It’s touching to be here and to see the support of the people in this community who want to help others,” said Catherine Nishikawa, who organized the donations for the event. “Even in the rain, there was a line of vehicles in support of families who are struggling and lack the resources to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal.”

As the bins filled with turkeys, event organizers and volunteers personally stopped to thank each donor for contributing a holiday meal for those in need.

“Every donation matters and every turkey means one less hungry family,” said David Martinez, executive director of the Placer Food Bank.

Thank you to all those that helped make a difference. Thousands of turkeys were donated to ensure that families will have a meal this Thanksgiving.
