BROOKINGS, Ore. – Sutter Health today announced a $25,000 donation to the Southwest Oregon Chapter of the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts for those impacted by the Chetco Bar Fire near Brookings.

“We are concerned for those in our community and part of being a great neighbor is looking beyond the walls of our care centers, out into the community, and supporting our neighbors in times of need,” said Mitch Hanna, CEO of Sutter Coast Hospital. “We hope this donation will help bring security, shelter, comfort and relief to those in need.”

The $25,000 donation bolsters the American Red Cross’ ongoing efforts to provide food, shelter and other desperately needed supplies to those affected by the Chetco Bar Fire.

“The Red Cross is very grateful for the generous gift from Sutter Health to support the Chetco wildfire response,” said Carisa Hettich, executive director for the Red Cross Southwest Oregon Chapter. “The Red Cross is able to provide care to those affected and displaced by this fire through the contributions from the community.”

Hettich stated that over 40 Red Cross staff and volunteers from multiple states, primarily Oregon, Washington and California, have been involved with the Chetco Fire since the beginning of the response nearly 3 weeks ago.

“We are happy to help with their efforts,” said Rose Corcoran, chief nurse executive at Sutter Coast Hospital. “In addition to the donation, our employees are also collecting food donations to help bolster supplies at the Brookings Harbor Community Helpers Food Bank.”

Sutter Health has long partnered with the American Red Cross and other organizations to help people in need both close to home and around the world. Sutter Health donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross Gold Country Region to support disaster relief efforts across Texas. The non-for-profit hospital system also provided support during many natural disasters including the typhoon in the Philippines, the earthquake in Nepal, Hurricanes Sandy and Katrina and the massive Northern California fires. Last year, Sutter Health invested $669 million in care and services for the poor and underserved.

Hettich said the Red Cross continues to be present in Curry and Josephine counties and is ready to respond. For information on how you can help support the Chetco Bar fire relief efforts, call 1-800-RED CROSS. For donations specific to Oregon Wildfires, contact 503-528-5634.
