Crowds of people – from employees to community members – enjoyed Sutter Tracy Community Hospital’s annual Cultural Day.

TRACY – Sutter Tracy Community Hospital held its annual Cultural Day on Wednesday, August 2, giving employees, physicians and volunteers an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures in the community.

“This is an event that been going since 2003,” said Sutter Tracy CEO David M. Thompson. “It’s very popular and gives everyone who attends an opportunity to share their culture with one another.”

Cultural Day committee members set up booths representing various countries and cultures, preparing authentic dishes, displaying artifacts from their country and providing information for attendees. While the event was intended for Sutter Tracy hospital employees, hospital visitors and community members passing by the hospital walked through the festivities.

Community groups such as PowerHouse Dance, Ballet Folklorico de las Rosas, Hula Ikaika Ohan O Kaawai and Native American Folklore and Dance by Tony Fuentes performed throughout the day. Tracy resident Darcy Paris opened the event by singing the national anthem.

“We are very proud of our diversity at Sutter Tracy,” said Dave. “And we want to ensure that our staff has an opportunity to educate and inform one another about their own culture and background. Everyone looks forward to this event and we are happy to put it on year after year.”
