ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Sutter Roseville Medical Center this week unveiled its new Infusion Center, a centerpiece of a comprehensive cancer center on the Sutter Roseville campus that also includes offices for oncology specialists and surgeons.

The new 13,500-square-foot Infusion Center was designed after much feedback from cancer patients who will use the new facility. For many cancer patients, the new Infusion Center will become a second home, requiring them to stay up to 10 hours a day with several sessions a week, and their care can last for months and even years.

“It’s incredibly comfortable and more calming here,” said longtime multiple sclerosis patient Shawna Lopez of Lincoln, whose monthly visits last more than five hours. She said in the past she would be isolated in a room, where it was tough to while away the hours. The new infusion bays are large and open, with curtains that can be closed if patients want privacy. “Most of us like to talk to each other,” she said, “so this is perfect.”

Sutter Roseville Medical Center’s growing infusion program has been bursting at the seams, with an increase in patients making the move to a larger facility necessary. Previously, infusion services were split into two locations on the Sutter Roseville campus.

That all changed Monday. The new Sutter Cancer Center, Roseville opened a consolidated Infusion Center on the second floor with 42 infusion bays – up from 33 bays in the former locations – with plenty of space to grow. In addition, a dedicated pharmacy was constructed inside the Infusion Center and will allow for a more efficient process for preparing the medications and delivering them to the patient bays.

The patient-centric amenities include:

  • Roomier patient bays that are nearly twice the size of the current ones, allowing for plenty of space for a loved one or friend accompanying the patient.
  • Curtains that provide privacy.
  • New larger television screens with many viewing options.
  • Heated reclining chairs and a blanket warmer.
  • Ambient lighting, with natural light from windows.
  • A soothing color palette and specially chosen artwork for these patients.
  • Four infusion rooms for patients who need to lie down for their treatments.
  • A large waiting area for patients and their friends.

Several of the amenities, including the dedicated pharmacy, were made possible by public donations to Sutter Roseville Medical Center Foundation.

“We are so grateful to our region’s supporters who are helping to make this much-needed Sutter Cancer Center a reality for our patients and their families,” said Sutter Roseville Medical Center CEO Pat Brady. “We will all be justifiably proud of the outstanding medical services and outcomes this new comprehensive cancer center will deliver.”

The new Sutter Cancer Center, Roseville also includes the Sutter Sierra Surgery Center, a nearly 13,500-square-foot ambulatory surgery facility that opened in July on the first floor, and the third floor is being prepared for Sutter Medical Group oncologists and oncology surgeons. Their offices are planned to be ready on Sept. 12.

Sutter Cancer Center, Roseville is a comprehensive cancer center that also includes dedicated services to help make patients’ cancer journeys easier, including patient navigation, financial counseling, pastoral care and oncology social workers.
