SACRAMENTOKarun Grossman, M.D., has been selected from among the 8,700 members of the California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) as Member of the Month for December 2014. She is being honored for her dedication to patient care, medical education and health policy.

Dr. Grossman is division vice president at Sutter Medical Group, where she provides full spectrum family medicine to patients, teaches young physicians in the Family Medicine Residency Program and serves as physician champion for the redesign of ambulatory care.

Working with CAFP, she has helped shape statewide health policy by serving on the Family Physicians Political Action Committee (FP-PAC) Board and is a long-time member of the Legislative Affairs Committee.

“Being a family physician is challenging and inspiring,” Dr. Grossman said. “Working with patients to help them stay as healthy as possible through preventive and primary care is a privilege. Teaching family medicine residents inspires me about the future of health care. In addition, working on laws that govern health care allows me to advocate for patients and physicians across California.”

“Dr. Grossman is a strong advocate for family medicine and her patients,” said CAFP President Del Morris, MD. “She has testified in support of CAFP-sponsored bills at the State Capitol and served as a liaison with elected leaders, ensuring that they understood how proposed laws would affect her colleagues and patients.”

Dr. Grossman received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and completed her residency at the Sutter Health Family Medicine Residency.
