DAVIS, Calif. – Distinguished community members gathered with hospital staff and Sutter Health officials to celebrate Sutter Davis Hospital’s 2013 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest Presidential honor for performance excellence, at the ARC Ballroom on the campus of UC Davis on Thursday evening.

The event also provided an opportunity for guests to say thank you and goodbye to the hospital’s CEO, Janet Wagner, who will become CEO at Sutter Health-affiliated Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame later this month.

Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, Sen. Lois Wolk and the chief of staff from Congressman John Garamendi’s office attended the celebration.

“Sutter Davis is a small community hospital,” said Wagner. “In fact, we are the smallest full service hospital in our Sutter Health network. We take great pride in achieving this recognition and representing all small hospitals across the nation. Our Sutter Davis Baldrige journey grew from a desire to deliver the safest, quality care to the communities we serve.”

Sutter Health President and CEO Pat Fry said that winning the Baldrige Award is a tremendous honor in which everyone at the hospital played a role.

“At Sutter Health, we strive to enhance the well being of people in the communities we service through our commitment to compassion and excellence in health care services,” he said. “The incredible example of teamwork demonstrated at Sutter Davis Hospital has not only led to a more efficient hospital, but more importantly, has helped advance the goal of providing each patient with a personalized care experience.”

Sutter Davis is the first organization or business in the greater Sacramento area and the first hospital in Northern California to receive the prestigious national honor. Past winners include Boeing, AT&T, Motorola, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Cadillac, 3M, Lockheed Martin and the Henry Ford Health System. To win the award, Sutter Davis was rigorously evaluated in seven areas: leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce focus, operations focus and results.

The community celebration to recognize Sutter Davis Hospital’s accomplishment created an opportunity to say thank you to outgoing CEO Wagner.

“I want to personally thank Janet for her years of leadership and commitment to quality health care,” said Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region President James Conforti. “Janet’s extraordinary quest for quality that led Sutter Davis Hospital to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award this year will remain a focal point for our physicians and employees at Sutter Davis Hospital.”
