SACRAMENTO – Richard Riemer, D.O., Sutter Neuroscience Institute’s regional medical director of Sutter Spine Care, was named the 2014 Physician of the Year by the Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons of California during its annual award presentation in February.

Richard Riemer, D.O., was named Physician of the Year by the Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons of California.

Richard Riemer, D.O., was named Physician of the Year by the Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons of California.

Dr. Riemer is a Sacramento neurologist who specializes in the evaluation of spine disorders and pain, as well as the evaluation and treatment of patients with a wide array of neurological conditions. He is on the OPSC Board of Directors and has served on multiple OPSC committees, including a two-year stint as chairman of the Legislative Committee.

The award is presented by OPSC to a D.O. – a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine – who best exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding osteopathic physician. Taken into account are such qualities as dedication and devotion to the profession, activity in the osteopathic community, and activity in the community in which the individual lives and works.

“As a physician, Dr. Riemer is beloved by his patients and in demand as a back pain specialist,” said Kathleen Creason, OPSC executive director. “He also takes time out of his busy practice to advocate for legislative issues that impact physicians and patients in California. We are thankful for all of his hard work and influence to improve health care throughout the state.”

“Dr. Riemer is an exemplary physician and well deserves this honor,” said Gary Schneiderman, M.D., medical director of Sutter Neuroscience Institute. “A person of great integrity and honesty, Dr. Riemer is valued by his colleagues and patients for his thoughtful and compassionate approach to health care.”

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine are fully licensed physicians who provide a full range of services. In addition to the traditional medical training that M.D.s receive, D.O.s are taught to practice a “whole person” approach to medicine and are specially trained in the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system.

The Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons of California represents more than 6,000 D.O.s licensed by the State of California. For more information, go to its website at www.OPSC.org.
