ROSEVILLE, Calif. – In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sutter Diagnostic Imaging in Roseville performed more than 100 free digital screening mammograms to uninsured women more than 40 years of age.  In addition to the free mammograms an insurance enrollment specialist from Covered California provided education, outreach and enrollment services, and a volunteer from the federally qualified health center WellSpace Health provided information about other various community resources and services available.

Early detection of breast cancer can lead to a longer, healthier life. Unfortunately some women view mammograms as optional, especially those without insurance. The women who underwent mammogram screenings will receive their results from Sutter Diagnostic Imaging within several days after their visit.

Sutter Diagnostic Imaging staff wore pink for the occasion, decorated with pink balloons and pink roses and offered a variety of refreshments, including pink lemonade, to the women who arrived for their mammograms.

Sutter’s Women’s Diagnostic imaging in Roseville includes digital mammograms, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, guided breast biopsies, and DEXA scans to check for osteoporosis

Sutter’s Free Mammography Day was spearheaded at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital in 2009, where in two years’ time about 70 uninsured women were given free mammograms. Inspired by the feedback and success of the program, Sutter Diagnostic Imaging expanded the event to its other locations in Davis, Elk Grove, Roseville and Sacramento in 2011, and in Fairfield, Jackson and Vallejo in 2012.  A total of 368 women were seen last year.
