Modern Healthcare Best Places to Work logo SACRAMENTO – Sutter Medical Foundation, Sutter Davis Hospital and the Sutter Center for Psychiatry were named Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2013 by Modern Healthcare. The award honors workplaces in health care that enable employees to perform at their optimum level to provide patients and customers with the best possible care, products and services.

This is the fifth year in a row that Sutter Davis Hospital was honored in the Modern Healthcare Best Places to Work survey, which is just in its sixth year, and it is the second time for both Sutter Center for Psychiatry and Sutter Medical Foundation to be on the list. Sutter Davis Hospital is the only medical center in California to make this year’s list, and Sutter Center for Psychiatry, which has an inpatient hospital and outpatient center in Sacramento along with services throughout the Sacramento region, is the only psychiatric hospital in the nation honored as a Best Place to Work.

This year, 100 health-care workplaces around the country – representing providers (including hospitals), suppliers, payers and associations– were honored as Best Places to Work in Healthcare, with only five of them being based in California. The three Sutter affiliates are the only ones honored in the greater Sacramento region.

Based on submissions sent in from hundreds of health care organizations across the country, Modern Healthcare examined dozens of workplace issues, from leadership and planning to pay and benefits. A crucial element to the evaluation process was surveys that were sent out to randomly selected employees. These surveys helped Modern Healthcare hear directly from staff about how they feel engaged and empowered in their jobs.

“It takes great vision, dedication and heart to build a collaborative work culture that keeps patients at the center of everything we do,” said Regional President James Conforti of Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region. “Sutter Center for Psychiatry, Sutter Davis Hospital and Sutter Medical Foundation are reflective of the excellent, engaged work environments our staffs have created throughout Northern California.”

Sutter Center for Psychiatry is the only not-for-profit psychiatric hospital in the greater Sacramento region that is part of an integrative health care system. It includes an inpatient, 69-bed psychiatric facility for children and adults located on Folsom Boulevard and an outpatient center that offers partial hospitalization and other mental health programs on Howe Avenue.

“It is gratifying for all of us at Sutter Center for Psychiatry to see the fruits of our labors in the positive changes made in our patients’ lives, and I’m sure that sense of accomplishment helped greatly in receiving this honor,” said John Boyd, chief administrative officer over mental health services for Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region.

Sutter Davis Hospital offers the best of all worlds – a technologically advanced acute-care hospital, a strong offering of outpatient services and community outreach programs. The 48-bed hospital and its programs provide care and support to the residents of Davis, Dixon, Winters, Woodland, West Sacramento, Vacaville and rural communities throughout Yolo and Eastern Solano counties.

“Our focus at Sutter Davis Hospital is the quality care we provide our patients, and to be able to do that in an environment where we care about each other is what makes our hospital one of the best places to work,” said Sutter Davis Hospital CEO Janet Wagner.

Working with more than 1,300 primary and specialty clinicians, Sutter Medical Foundation is a multispecialty health-care provider delivering comprehensive care to patients at clinics throughout Sacramento, Amador, Nevada, Placer, Solano, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties. Physicians within the network share a dedication to providing exceptional services and empowering patients to play an active role in their health care. The Sutter Medical Foundation network (also known as Sutter Physicians Alliance) includes Sutter Medical Group, Sutter Independent Physicians and Sutter North Medical Group.

“Along with our clinician partners, we have worked hard over the years to create a place where people feel good about the work they do,” said Tom Blinn, CEO of Sutter Medical Foundation. “Our patients can sense how well we work together on their behalf and can be comforted by the connections they see us make in order to give them the best possible care.”

Sutter Center for Psychiatry, Sutter Davis Hospital and Sutter Medical Group are part of the Sutter Health network, a not-for-profit, community-based health system located throughout Northern California.
