SACRAMENTO – John Boyd, PsyD., who oversees Sutter Center for Psychiatry and is chief administrative officer of Regional Behavioral Health and Continuing Care at Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, was appointed last week by Gov. Jerry Brown to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission.

Boyd is one of 16 commissioners whose mission is to oversee state tax dollars used by counties from the Mental Health Services Act, also called Proposition 63, and to hold public mental health systems in the state accountable.

“Due to budget shortfalls, many California counties had to cut mental health services” Boyd said. “I am pleased to serve our state in helping counties utilize these funds to assist those who need access to mental health services, while at the same time easing the impact this issue is having on emergency departments and medical centers throughout the state.”

This appointment is a reflection of the excellent work that has been done within the Sacramento Sierra Region including Sutter Center for Psychiatry and its staff in caring for the mental health needs of patients throughout the Sacramento region. Many improvements have been initiated by our regional behavioral health team, including SCP in order to meet the increased demand for these services.

Boyd received a Doctor of Psychology degree from the California School of Professional Psychology and earned a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Southern California. He served as a City of Sacramento Planning and Design Commissioner from 2004-2008 and is a fellow at the American College of Healthcare Executives.
